Looking forward to baron rating Wold Top Headland Red & Scarborough Fair IPA

It's been a very long time since we last baron rated some Wold Top ales, so it came as a lovely surprise when they offered to send me some of their brand new Scarborough Fair IPA. They were also kind enough to include samples of their Headland Red ale which I've also not tried.

Most of the Wold Top bottled beers fall into the 3.5%-5% mark so it's was great to see their new IPA weighing in at 6%. I also noticed that it mentions that it's certified gluten-free - does this make it the first gluten-free IPA?

Wold Top Brewery
  • Headland Red - 4.3% red beer, mellow malty flavour hopped with Progress hops
  • Scarborough Fair IPA - 6% strong and well hopped IPA,Wold-grown malt base, triple hop blend and maize for head retention - certified gluten-free
Look out for 'baron ratings' for these Wold Top beers soon, and a big thank you to @WoldTopBrewery from Wold Top Brewery for sending these through to me!

Looking forward to 'baron rating' Wold Top ales very soon!

When we were reviewing the last of the myBrewerytap '52 week beer club' summer pack we found the cap on the Wold Top Wold Gold was loose and the beer had been leaking out for a few weeks. When we opened the beer it was completely flat and off and so we couldn't 'baron rate' it.

I emailed Wold Top about this and they offered to send some through, what they didn't say was quite how many samples they would send! Check out this great selection of Wold Top ales:

Wold Top Brewery

  • 5 Wold Rings - 5% amber beer
  • Against The Grain - 4.5% wheat free ale
  • Centenary Way - 3.5% mild ale
  • Falling Stone - 4.2% best bitter
  • Golden Summer - 4.4% fruity amber beer
  • Mars Magic - 4.6% dark beer
  • Merry Christmas - 6% dark beer
  • Summer Holiday - 5.5% rich dark beer
  • Veteran Ale - 4.2% armed forces charity ale
  • Wold Gold - 4.8% blonde beer
  • Wold Top - 3.7% bitter
  • Wolds Way - 3.6% pale ale
Look out for 'baron ratings' for these Wold Top beers soon, and a big thank you to Paul from Wold Top Brewery for sending these through to me!

myBrewerytap's summer selection of the '52 week beer club'

Chris & I have been a member of myBrewerytap's 52 week beer club since December and so our third quarter's pack arrived a few weeks ago. Due to a 'beer backlog' I've only just found the time to blog about it's contents now, so sorry for the delay!

The box arrived in excellent condition (as always) and the first thing that I noticed was that the box was bigger than previous quarters - it could withstand a missile strike & not disturb the yeast sediment!

Inside there were 13 bottles of ale, some tasting notes and a large bag of Q pork scratchings (award winning ones at that!).

  • Hidden Old Sarum
An excellent looking pack full of crisp, hoppy summer ales - a perfect match for the summer pack! I'm really looking forward to getting stuck into these beers over the coming weeks.

If you are not already a member of the "52 week beer club" I would suggest you sign up - just don't forget to say that "the baron made me do it!" ;)
